06 Jun Argentina Pecans makes debut at Sial Shanghai
Following the signing of the export protocol enabling the shipment of Argentine pecans to China in March 2025, Argentina Pecans proudly participated for the first time in SIAL Shanghai—one of Asia’s most prominent food innovation exhibitions. This marks a significant step in our efforts to promote and position Argentina as a trusted and high-quality source of pecans for the international markets.
The event, which took place between May 19th and May 21st in the Shanghai New International Expo Center was a great opportunity to establish contact with Chinese buyers and initiate long-term trade relations between the two countries. The interest and enthusiasm shown confirm the great potential of this new commercial relationship.
Argentina has many advantages when it comes to supplying the Chinese market. The first is its privileged location, which allows the pecan harvest to take place between March and June. This means Argentina can provide fresh pecans from June to September, during the counter season of the Northern Hemisphere. The second advantage is that the genetics of the cultivated varieties come from the USDA Germplasm Repository, and develop very well in the climatic conditions of Argentina, resulting in very good size nuts. Argentina’s inshell exports size breakdown in the last four years was 46% Oversize nuts and 40% Extra Large nuts. Because of the big size nuts Argentina grows, its kernel production is mainly Mammoth size. Lastly, pecan orchards in Argentina are still young, so production volumes are expected to continue increasing, with an estimated 10,000 tons to be reached within the next five years. Exports went from 632 tons in 2010 to 2,000 tons in 2024 and we expect to maintain this growth rate over the next few years, keeping up with the increasing production.
Argentine pecans reach markets such as the United States, Europe, Brazil, Peru, Russia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, positioning itself at the new pecan supplier to the world.
Argentina Pecans is part of Fruits from Argentina, a group made up in 2019 by the ABC – Argentine Blueberry Committee (Blueberries), Argentina Pecans – the argentine pecan sector’s brand (Pecan), CAFI – Argentine Chamber of Integrated Fruit Growers (Pears and Apples), CAPCI – Integrated Producers Argentinean Cherries Association (Cherries) and FEDERCITRUS – Argentine Citrus Federation (Lemon and sweet citrus). “It is under this umbrella that we seek to achieve the greatest competitiveness for the sector and position our diverse fruit offer in the world to reach different international markets with a high quality, condition and sustainable product.”
